John Jermain Memorial Library

Sag Harbor’s John Jermain Library was commissioned and built in 1910 by Margaret Olivia Slocum Sage in memory of her grandfather, Major John Jermain, as a gift to the people of Sag Harbor. It was named a contributing structure to the Sag Harbor Historic District in 1973; a light-filled fully-accessible addition, which doubled the space of the building, opened in 2016.

The library, a member of the Suffolk Cooperative Library System, provides free access to books, e-books, audiobooks, media, local history materials, museum passes, WiFi and public computers, as well as a wide range of cultural programming including storytimes, art exhibits, language classes, book clubs, movies and concerts.

The library’s service area is contiguous with the Sag Harbor Union Free School District and includes the incorporated Village of Sag Harbor, the incorporated Village of North Haven, Noyac, and the Mount Misery, Eastville, and Baypoint neighborhoods. John Jermain is a key stakeholder in the Main Street business district, and a founding member of the Sag Harbor Cultural District.
